What’s the difference between traditional veneers and Lumineers?
Veneers are used to correct chipped or unevenly spaced teeth or to whiten teeth when regular lightening methods are not enough. Traditional veneers, porcelain laminates, bonding or full crowns are all possible treatments for specific problems.
Traditional veneers require some reduction of tooth structure to make room for the thicker porcelain.
With recent technology, Lumineers have been able to be constructed ultra thin, about the thickness of a contact lens. This permits little to no tooth reduction / preparation, no anesthetic, and no temporaries. The ceramics that compose Lumineers has been around for 20 years and has been tested to be tough. The Lumineers company warranties against breakage for 5 years.
Lumineers are certainly one of the most conservative options we can offer, and they can be done painlessly and rapidly.
Not every situation, however, permits the use of the Lumineers technique. Study models are taken and each case is evaluated for suitability.
